Her Campus Media Announces Strategic Partnership with Rock the Vote
BOSTON, MA (September 17th 2015) - Her Campus Media, the #1 global community for college women, today announced its official partnership with Rock the Vote, the largest non-profit, non-partisan organization in the US dedicated to building the political power of young people. The college marketing powerhouse will tap into its extensive network of over 12 million college women and presence on over 290 college campuses to help fuel Rock the Vote’s campaign to register and turn out young voters. Her Campus will kick off efforts in support of Rock the Vote just in time for White House-backed National Voter Registration Day on September 22. Since the early 90s, Rock the Vote has revolutionized the use of pop culture and the arts to inspire millennials to take political action. At just 6 years old, Her Campus uses a similar model to launch the next generation of female media professionals.
"The Her Campus platform provides an unparalleled opportunity for college journalists to be heard and for their voices to be amplified,” said Stephanie Kaplan Lewis, co-founder and CEO of Her Campus. “Partnering with Rock the Vote is such a natural fit as we tap into this incredible organization as a vehicle for allowing college women to have the impact on this country's future that they deserve."
Ashley Spillane, president of Rock the Vote, shares Kaplan Lewis’s sentiments.
“With over 20 million Americans attending colleges and universities this year, we know it’s more important than ever to make sure that students are engaged in the political process,” said Spillane. “If all 84 million millennials who will be 18 for the 2016 turned out to vote, they could make up to 40% of the electorate. We’re excited to work with Her Campus to inspire more young women to get involved in the political process and take an active role in creating the future they want for our country."
In advance of National Voter Registration Day, Rock the Vote will play a leading role in coordinating celebrities, corporations and media outlets to promote registering to vote on the 22nd through the inclusion of its online voting tool, its pledge of support campaign, and social media activations. Her Campus is ready to seamlessly integrate its far-reaching female network with all of the above.
"Our girls are ambitious, hyper-involved, intelligent, and engaged – they don't shy away from speaking out about what matters, whether it be campus politics or what's happening on the national stage,” said Brittany Lewis, Director of Community Development at Her Campus. “Rock the Vote is the perfect partner to amplify the powerful conversation these students are already having across their campuses and help it reach every single college student in the country."
Her Campus and Rock the Vote will be collaborating on multiple events for the balance of 2015 extending throughout the election year. Check back to HerCampus.com and RocktheVote.com for information on upcoming events and ways to get involved.
