PicMonkey Offers Paid Internships for College Students in the Her Campus Community
Saluting International Day of the Girl, PicMonkey and Her Campus support college students via paid internships with successful American women entrepreneurs
SEATTLE, Washington, October 11, 2019 – PicMonkey, a leading image editing and design platform, today announced a partnership with Her Campus, the #1 new media brand for the empowered college woman and 360-degree college marketing agency. PicMonkey is funding an internship program which will give up to 20 Her Campus community members the chance to earn $2,000 and one-on-one mentorship from a successful female entrepreneur. The internships are ideal for students interested in exploring how visual communications are central to careers in social media, marketing, graphic design and ecommerce.
The PicMonkey and Her Campus internship program at a glance
To foster growth in entrepreneurship and emerging economy careers, PicMonkey and Her Campus have teamed up to offer competitive internships to aspiring female student entrepreneurs.
Prospective interns apply via Her Campus, and those selected will be paired with PicMonkey brand ambassadors – female entrepreneurs with thriving businesses. These college interns will work closely with entrepreneurs to develop skills in visual communications and brand-building. Through hands-on creative experience, interns will learn the ins and outs of running a successful business, by leveraging effective marketing, social media and design tactics.
The 40-hour internships will take place during the 2019-2020 school year – during vacation or summer breaks, based on the preferences of the PicMonkey brand ambassador and student intern.
“We’re delighted to partner with Her Campus and to support women entrepreneurs of all ages,” said Frits Habermann, PicMonkey chief executive officer. “Today’s college students are tomorrow’s business leaders. We’re proud to help students gain real-world work experience while still in school, so they can hone their skills and fuel their own dreams for entrepreneurship.”
Internships are the key to success after graduation
According to a study by Hart Research Associates, 73 percent of employers believe that requiring college students to complete a significant applied learning project before graduation will improve the quality of their preparation for careers. 60 percent of employers indicate that they would be more likely to consider a candidate for full-time employment if he/she had completed an internship.
"We're thrilled to be teaming up with PicMonkey on this important program, celebrating women's empowerment which is core to everything we do here at Her Campus Media,” said Stephanie Kaplan Lewis, Co-founder, CEO, and Editor-in-Chief of Her Campus Media. “PicMonkey is a phenomenal, like-minded partner and we look forward to working with them to share career advancement opportunities with our community."
A study by American Express reveals that the number of women-owned businesses increased by 114 percent, a rate 2.5 times higher than the national average, from 1997 to 2017. This number is on a steady incline, and PicMonkey’s program with Her Campus aims to train the next generation of successful women entrepreneurs.
