Her Campus & Running Start Announce Power-Packed Lineup for Elect Her Training Day - An Event To Train College Women To Run For Office
October 28, 2020 (Boston, MA & Washington, DC) - Her Campus, the #1 media brand and community for college women, and Running Start, a nonpartisan nonprofit that trains young women to run for public office, today announced a power-packed lineup for their Elect Her Training Day. The event is taking place on Friday, October 30 at 12pm EST for 120 diverse, high-potential college women selected by application, who hail from 101 colleges, 35 states, and 6 countries. Bellamy Young, who portrayed Mellie Grant in ABC’s ‘Scandal’, will be a special guest at this event, which will also include speeches and fireside chats from female politicians and changemakers including Congresswoman Lauren Underwood, Delaware State Senate Candidate Sarah McBride, Youngest Muslim Elected Official in the U.S. Bushra Amiwala, TX House of Representatives Candidate Celina Montoya, Congresswoman Angie Craig, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, New York State Senate Candidate Samra Brouk, plus young female entrepreneurs who have founded mission-aligned organizations: BallotReady, GAP Project, Voteology, and Xceleader.
Additional speakers include Congresswoman Susan Brooks, Congresswoman Judy Chu, Congresswoman Barbara Comstock, Founder of MuslimGirl.com & Former Congressional Candidate Amani Al-Khatahtbeh, Activist & Former Congressional Candidate Erin Schrode, Edelman U.S. Chief Operating Officer Lisa Ross, NC House of Representatives Candidate Aimy Steele, Congresswoman Martha Roby, Delegate & Candidate for Virginia Governor Jennifer Carroll Foy, and State Representative Stephanie Howse.
“We founded Her Campus to support college women, share their voices, and help them launch their careers. We are proud to extend that mission in 2020 with Elect Her Training Day, at a time when making sure college women’s voices aren’t just heard, but that they also have a seat at the decision-making table, feels more urgent and important than ever. We are thrilled to join forces with Running Start and this inspiring group of female politicians to give attendees the information, inspiration, and tools they need to lay the groundwork to one day run for office,” said Stephanie Kaplan Lewis, co-founder & CEO of Her Campus.
At Friday’s Elect Her Training Day, participants will also engage in interactive sessions led by the experts at Running Start, where they’ll pinpoint the issues they’re most passionate about, learn how to best leverage their networks, and craft a winning “run for office elevator pitch”.
On Thursday October 29 at 6pm EST, the night before Elect Her Training Day, Her Campus will host a virtual viewing party of SURGE, a feature documentary about the record number of first-time female candidates who ran, won, and upended politics in the historic 2018 midterm elections, with remarks by the film’s all-female executive director/producer team.
